Grandfamily Mentoring Program

Who will benefit?

K-3 grade students, students of low socioeconomic status and students who are raised by their grandparents.

Project Highlights:

The Grandfamilies Mentoring Program will support out-of-school-time learning and supplemental literacy education to help close academic gaps among grandfamily students. Grandparents will be paired with trained WVU Extension Service Energy Express mentors to learn how to engage in literacy activities, as well as how best to support virtual learning, homework, skill deficits and reading strategies. The mentorship opportunity not only will build stronger relationships among caring adults, but also will support students’ academica, social and emotional growth.

Collaborative Partners: West Virginia State University Extension Service, West Virginia State University, Extension Healthy Grandfamilies Program, Doddridge, Ritchie, McDowell, Wyoming, and County Board of Educations, WV After School Network.

Funded by the EQT Foundation.
