Eagles’ NEST (Nurture, Educate, Succeed Together)

Supporting school readiness where it starts – at home.

Who will benefit?

Mason Dixon Elementary School second-grade students and their siblings who participate in Head Start, Early Head Start and Pre-K, students with low reading achievement or low attendance, students in foster care and students with grandparents as their guardians.

Project Highlights:

Mason Dixon Elementary School will provide caregivers and young learners with literacy and school-readiness resources to encourage reading at home year-round. By offering these resources at home and through local childhood programming, students can gain confidence and build their reading skills outside of the classroom, which in turn, prepares them to meet grade-level proficiency inside the classroom.

In addition, participating educators and staff will engage in active professional development ot improve high-quality instruction by studying the “Impact Cycle” by Jim Knight and Katie Garner’s “Secret Stories” phonics program.

Collaborative Partners: Mason Dixon Rotary Club, Head Start, Early Head Start and WVU 4-H Extension.

Funded by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.
