Creating Thoughtful Writers Through Science

Increasing student learning through informative text reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Who will benefit?

Pocahontas County school K-3 students, students who need extra help and support in school through IEPs, students of low socioeconomic status and students with low reading proficiencies.

Project Highlights:

Participating educators will use science as a tool to help students learn to read and understand informative text, become creative thinkers, and practice writing skills. Collaborators will bring experiential learning directly to students, introducing them to science activities to learn about through writing, listening, speaking and reading.  

Collaborative Partners: West Virginia University Extension Services, Adventure Pocahontas, Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Project Wet- Department of Environmental Protection, West Virginia State Parks, Green Bank Observatory, West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, Pocahontas County Park and Recreation, Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, West Virginia Food and Farm, and High Rocks- Ruby Grows.
