MC After 3, Jr.*

Extended day/extended year program with targeted intervention and STEAM integration

Who will benefit?

Early elementary students in Morgan County schools

Project Highlights:

Morgan County Schools received a Sparking Early Literacy Growth grant in 2021 to better support the early literacy and STEAM skills of early elementary students. The after-school program, known as MC After 3 Jr., provides students with targeted literacy instruction based upon their needs. They also receive visits from local scientists to support their development in STEAM learning, provide engaging outdoor education activities, and encourage students’ vocabulary development through hands-on activities and learning. In addition, this project also incorporates regular parent events to support families and intense professional learning opportunities for the teachers involved in the project.

After the school year, students will continue learning at Camp MoCo, an 8-week summer camp that uses an outdoor classroom model filled with dramatic play, outdoor sensory explorations, nature observation and journaling, and literacy scavenger hunts.

Funded by the Roy and Gwen Steeley Foundation.
