Heather Abbott was named Chief Information Officer for the West Virginia Office of Technology (WVOT) in July 2023. Prior to this appointment, Heather served as the Chief Operations Officer for the WVOT for 5 years. She brings 30 years of public service experience to her current role. She started her IT career as a computer programmer with the WV Department of Transportation after college. She has held multiple IT management positions, most notably serving the WV Dept of Health and Human Resources as the Director of IT Operations. This role initiated her focus on cybersecurity, leading to a position as the WVOT SOC manager.
Heather has degrees in Management Information Services and Business Management from the WV Institute of Technology. In addition, she has spoken at numerous conferences and events. She is experienced in multiple areas of IT and over the years has assisted with IT operations and Project Management throughout WV State Government.
